Mobile’s influence is undeniable. GSM World and the CTIA recently confirmed that there are now 4 billion mobile phone subscriptions on the planet, vs. just 1 billion PC owners.  Mobile subscribers now dominate 60% of the population.  As we look to the future, GSM World predicts the number of total subscribers will hit 6 billion by 2013. 

In the U.S., we have already reached 262 million subscribers, contributing to over 75 billion text messages per month.  We see another trend occurring as 12% of U.S. households have already abandoned the fixed landlines and have moved to only using mobile phones. 

The use of SMS (text messaging) continues to remain the most widely used application in the world.  It is no longer just an application used primarily by Gen-Y, but it has become widely used among Gen-X, and even the baby-boomer population. Worldwide, there are 3 billion users of SMS text messaging vs. 1.3 billion email users, and 600 million IM users.  SMS clearly towers above email and IM in total usage, and if leveraged properly it can be just as powerful in helping to build and cultivate talent pipelines.
 
What is the mobile data really telling us?

It means that our world has changed and it’s not turning back. Sourcing candidates has become increasingly mobile, so has the need to use more targeted means of connecting and attracting qualified candidates.
