Must-Have Resource for Public Sector Recruiters and Sourcers

Today, 854,000 people (over 1.5x Washington, DC's population) have US Federal top-secret security clearances. And nearly 1/3 are employed by private contractors, not the government (per Christian Science Monitor).

Coming out of a two-year investigative journalism effort, a newly-published article series and companion interactive website by the Washington Post give you incredible data on the companies and government departments that do top secret work: http://bit.ly/a34lCe

Why Bad Resumes are Good for Great Recruiters

Why Do I Like “Bad” Resumes So Much?

I am not sure which of the Recruitment Training Pundits is pushing it, but there is a strange trend developing among corporate recruiters—they are in search of the “perfect resume” instead of hunting real talent. More and more frequently I encounter corporate expectations that if a resume is not written super well, they actually believe the candidate must not be of high quality. This expectation is not only as wrong as it gets, it leaves much less competition as I recruit excellent talent.

Sourcing Is More Than the Sum of Its Parts - Sourcing in 2010 and BEYOND

These are interesting times in the sourcing discipline. Despite the lingering recession, recruiting is picking up here and there and in the software technologies markets, momentum is nearly as strong as ever.

But the recession has changed most everything. It has meant the loss of many firms and the birth and rebirth of new ones. It has meant the near extinction of some occupations and the slow, painful rebirth of others.

What does this mean for recruiters and Sourcers as we look forward in 2010 and beyond?

Introducing the Australasian Researchers Network

I've always been a HUGE fan of Australia ever since I was a little kid and picked up a book about Australia. I even did a show-and-tell in school and brought pictures of platypus, echidnas, kookaburras, and wombats. During my postsecondary education I took a year sabbatical to go live there and adventure around the country on a motorcycle from 1992 to 1993. It was the best year of my young adulthood, second only to my Peace Corps experience in how it influenced the person I have become.
