LinkedIn Tip – Should you invite strangers to connect with you on LinkedIn if you want to recruit them?

We advise you to send an email first, before you request a connection via LinkedIn. This avoids having people click the “I Don’t Know” button which can hurt your reputation rank or even get your account suspended.

Cold Calling – What you should capture and track on a Cold Calling spreadsheet?

The spreadsheet we recommend includes reasonable biographical data and a few performance indicators:  First Name, Last Name, Email, Phone, Company, Title, Targeted Role (the role they may be a fit for), Description or Bio (a brief summary of their skills), Website (or LinkedIn profile, etc), Source Method (weather they were found on a search engine, social network, etc.), Source Code (which specific site within the methods, i.e.

Social Networking Tip

Unyk seems redundant. Should I use it? We recommend you get on it in case someone wants to find you there but we don’t really use it much to synchronize our contacts. If we need to find someone, we’ll check Plaxo first then Unyk but we’re not really active in either at this time.

Blogging Tip – On your blog, be yourself, use your real name and title.

Express your own ideas. Use the blog to reflect the company’s image and values, but don’t just “tow the company line” – express your own thoughts and ideas too.

Pay-per-click Advertising Tip

Direct Ads or Pay-per-click advertising can be very effective as a way to market your positions because the audience exposed to your ad is narrowly defined, therefore your money is spent on highly targeted demographics. You can display jobs or other recruitment ads targeted to a particular job function, industry, company size, seniority, location, and so on, and only pay if your ad is clicked.

Social Networking Tip – Check out Skype and Digsby

We utilize it almost exclusively as our preferred chat client. We continue to use it as a standalone chat client because of its ease of use, video and screen sharing (desktop sharing) capabilities. Thought we occasionally also turn on Windows Live Messenger, and a few others, instead we utilize Digsby.com to connect with all our other chat clients besides Skype.

Twitter Tip - How do I follow twitter on my iPhone?

If you plan on using Twitter we strongly recommend you get the Advanced Twitter GuruGuide for recruiters here:

LinkedIn Tip - How many groups is too much on LinkedIn?

You are allowed to be in no more than 50 groups, but if those groups have subgroups there is no limit on those. If you create, own or manage a group that also falls under the 50 max.

Blogging Tip – Stay on point.

You are an expert on recruiting in your industry, the theme of your blog should stay within the realm of your expertise. Be careful not to disclose confidential company information, or things people have asked you to keep secret about them.

Social Networking Tip - Can you ever be over exposed on the internet and come across as too aggressive and not genuine?

The risk is in being overly aggressive, having “too much” of a presence on any given community. If it looks like all you do all day long is post comments on (name any social media website) then you can be overexposed by giving the appearance that you have nothing better to do.
