New LinkedIn User Interface and navigation

Have you noticed the new user interface and navigation on LinkedIn? What do you think about it? Rather than the expanding menus on the left you can now browse around the features using the navigation bar across the top of the page. This bar includes:

  • Home: takes you to the main page
  • Profile: You can Edit or View your profile or see your Recommendations
  • Contacts: Shows your connections, contacts you have imported, profiles you have organized, your network statistics, and a link to add connections
  • Groups: Links to your groups, the directory, add a group, and lists any groups you own/manage
  • Jobs: find, post, or manage jobs
  • Inbox: view recent messages, sent messages and archived ones
  • More: links to advanced people search, companies listing, answers section, learning center, and any applications you have installed like blog link, company buzz, tweets or tripit, as well as the app directory.

Personally I think this is a more intuitive way to navigate but I wish I could customize my most frequently used choices. For example, the Advanced People Search would be a top level button for me, where now I have to navigate to it.

You may also notice that your inbox got a facelift - you can now hover over a new Compose Message button and get a one-click choice to Send a message to a connection, InMail or introduction, invite, recommendation, request for recommendation and job notification. Nice :)
