There's a tie in February for "Ask the CyberSleuth" best question winner!

Thank you! We received at least 10 excellent questions in the month of February so you must be virally spreading the word about our “Ask the CyberSleuth” feature. Questions were so good that we had a tough time picking one that stood out above all others. So… we declare it a tie!

Both of our winners this month are professional full-time dedicated researchers who reached out with very clear needs for projects they were actively working. Part of why these questions were challenging was because these dedicated professionals had already tried many of their own techniques and so we had to come up with something new. We love these challenges when we get all the details we need to formulate a few good search string suggestions!

Ruth-Dinaz Sarkari, Manager Internet Sourcing at AGResearch in Dallas, TX asked about Sourcing Alumni with specific criteria such as a BS or MS in Chemistry, graduating between 2003 and 2008, but only from particular schools. Her question made both Mark and I curious so we gave her a few suggestions including a university specific search technique using the site: field like this

site:harvard.edu (alumni OR alumnus) (chemistry OR "chemical biology" OR biochemistry) 2003..2008

and searching for school names while using the numrange feature on the Google hack for LinkedIn.

Our second winner in February was Wendy Kerkhoff from HCM Advantage Consulting Ltd. in Calgary, Canada who asked about finding elusive software license managers. This one rang Glenn’s bell so he dug up some techniques for finding people on LinkedIn, and threw out a very creative hack for getting names of people in the credits built right into software installed on your computer.

Thank you both Ruth and Wendy, and we hope to see you come back to Ask the CyberSleuth more often! Meanwhile, drop us a note to let us know which CheatSheet you would like as your prize.

Cheers,

Shally
